Questions for Revelation 13
Summary of last week’s class:
In chapter 12 we were introduced to several of the main characters that will have an important role in the remainder of the book. The woman in chapter 12 represented the people of God, the dragon is the Devil, and the child born to the woman is Jesus Christ. The dragon unsuccessfully tried to devour the child, but the child was caught up to heaven to the throne of God. Next, the dragon turned his attention to the woman and her offspring. In this week’s class we will finish chapter 12 and see how the woman and her offspring overcame the dragon and how we can too. Chapter 13 introduces us to two more characters that are in opposition to God’s people. We will discuss the tactics used by God’s enemies to try and get his people to compromise (i.e., the mark of the beast) and how God’s people then and now could hold to their faith even under fiery trial.

Questions for Revelation 12
Summary of last week’s class:
Last week we discussed the persecution of the two witnesses (i.e., the church). They would prophesy for 1,260 days and then they would be persecuted and killed (Rev. 11:1-3). Their persecution would not last because they would be raised from the dead by God (Rev. 11:4-14). Heaven erupted in worship again and praised God for delivering his people and for destroying those who tormented them on the earth (Rev. 11:15-19). In chapter 12 John shifts gears. He introduces the major characters behind the persecution the Christians were facing. He shows how Christians then and now can overcome hardship and difficulty by trusting in the Lord. There is a brief, but detailed description provided of our adversary (Rev. 12:9-10). Our adversary is shown as defeated and struck down and this should provide us with comfort and courage.
Questions for Chapter 12
- Who is the woman described in Revelation 12:1-2 (see also Rev. 12:13, 12:17)?
- Who is the male child she gave birth to and how do we know it’s Jesus J (Rev. 12:5-6)?
- Who is Michael (Rev. 12:7)?
- When did the heavenly war described in Revelation 12 take place (cf. Rev. 12:7-11)?
- List the ways Satan is described in Revelation 12:9-10 and try and define each term? What do these terms tell us about Satan?
- What did Christians do to be victorious in Revelation 12:11? What does the word of their testimony mean? What does it mean that they did not love their lives even unto death?
- What is the purpose of the “wilderness” in the Bible (cf. Rev. 12:4, 12:14)?
- Why does the dragon pursue the woman (Rev. 12:13)?
- What does the Devil know about his time (Rev. 12:12)? How should this effect our interaction with him?
- What does Revelation 12:5 describe?
