June 2, 2024 - Sunday PM Sermon
How to have joy no matter what (Philippians 1)
Hiram Kemp
Joy (χαρά)- Biblical joy is an understanding of existence that covers both happiness and sadness and that can accept with creative submission events that bring delight and distress because true joy allows one to see beyond any one event to the sovereign Lord, who stands above all events and ultimately has control over them all.
Receive God's grace and peace - (Phillipians 1:1-2)
Remember the good things - (Phillipians 1:3-5)
“If my world were to cave in tomorrow, I would look back on all the pleasures, excitements, and worthwhileness I have been lucky enough to have had. Not the sadness, not my miscarriages, or my father leaving home, but the joy of everything else. It will have been enough.”
–– Audrey Hepburn
How to remember the good
- Learn how to count (Phil. 3:13)
- Count your blessings (Psalm 116:12)
- Share good things with others (Proverbs 25:25)
- Have a “praise list” not just a “prayer list” (Psalm 33:1; Rom. 11:33-36)
Surround yourself with positive people (2 Cor. 7:6)
Realize God is Working - (Philippians 1:6)
Abound in Love - (Philippians 1:9-11)
Live for a cause greater than yourself - (Philippians 1:12-18)
Resolve to always live for Jesus - (Philippians 1:27)
