This quarter the auditorium bible class over the next 13 weeks will look at the 150 Psalms. Today Roger looks at Psalms 29 & 32. 

 

Psalm 29: A Praise or Worship

• Anthropomorphism = the attribution of a human characteristic or behavior to God
• God has a voice, and it’s found elsewhere, especially in the Old Testament
  • Psalm 34:15 – eyes and ears of the Lord
  • Psalm 75:8 – hand of the Lord
  • Isaiah 41:10 – right hand of the Lord
  • Isaiah 51:9 – arm of the Lord
• “Voice of the lord” – Did you see it repeated?

• What makes His voice so noticeable and, thus, insisting on our keen attention?

• Where do we hear His voice?

• What word and what phrase are particularly descriptive of His voice?

• What action words or phrases tell us what God does with His voice?

• What should be man’s response to nonbelievers who assert we cannot” hear” God’s voice?

  What lessons can we find in Psalm 29?

  •  

    Praise God for who He is and what He has done for us.

  • Ascribe no strength or glory to other forces at work in the world.

Psalm 32: A Praise Psalm

• Psalm 32 contains important elements of the gospel message. What element is found in verses 1-2?

• Our transgressions are COVERED.

• What are some of the New Testament passages that convey this?

  • Acts 2:38   Acts 3:19   Ephesians 1:7

• What element of the gospel message is found in verses 3-5?

• Transgressions must be CONFESSED.

• What are some of the New Testament passages that convey this?

  • Matthew 10:32  Romans 10:10   1 John 1:9

• But there’s more: If we don’t do that, our transgressions are CONSUMING.

  • John 8:34   Ephesians 2:1

• What important element of the gospel message is found in verses 6-7?

• PRAYING helps avoid being consumed by sin

• What are some of the New Testament passages that convey the importance of this?

  • Matt 21:22   Phil 4:6   Col 4:2   Jms 5:16

• David understood DIVINE PROTECTION.

  • Isa 54:17   Pro 29:25   Rom 8:31   2 Thes 3:3

• And we must remember to be CONTRITE.

  • 2 Cor 7:10   1 Ptr 5:5

• Indeed, transgressors are COMMANDED to learn.

• What are some of the Bible passages (OT & NT) that clearly convey this?

  • Josh 1:8   2 Tim 2:15   Rev 1:3

• What unfortunate fact about the gospel message is mentioned in verses 9-10?

• We have an obligation to govern ourselves. But transgressors are often CALLOUSED.

• What are some of the NT passages that show this was present in the 1st Century?

  • Matt 13:15   Eph 4:19

• What response to the gospel message is suggested in verse 11?

•  Transgressors are CALLED (expected) to rejoice.

• What are some of the Bible passages (OT & NT) that remind us of this?

• Lessons from Psalm 32:

  • Don’t forget, we are the TRANSGRESSORS.

  • Confess, act suitably, experience the blessings.
